1770 Pendrell was originally conceived as a for sale residential project, but developed by Westbank as one of the first new rental residential towers in the West End in decades. Overlooking English Bay, the design reflects a rich modernist history. The minimalist expression together with the steel exoskeleton and slatted wood accents, pay homage to a simple Japanese aesthetic, which inspired much of the west coast modernism in our city since the 1940’s and 50’s. The landscape includes a feature rock garden with a meandering stepping stone path and a cherry tree marking the entrance to the development. In the garden, large boulders and low ground cover form islands in a field of smooth stones. The western façade includes sail-like sun and privacy screens made of stainless steel mesh, filtering the sunset light over English Bay below.
